We are writing to ask for your support in raising funds for our sister Amy who will be undergoing major lung surgery in March 2026 at Leeds General Infirmary.
Over the past two years, Amy has been through a long and difficult journey trying to find answers to ongoing health problems. After chronic pneumonia and a series of other serious health complications, she was finally diagnosed with pulmonary sequestration – a rare congenital lung condition that affects 0.00075% of the general population. Less than 1 in 100,000.
This condition causes ongoing and varied complications throughout her body. As there is no alternative treatment, Amy has made the brave decision to undergo partial lung amputation next spring. This will be followed by approximately six months recovery including intensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
During her recovery Amy will not be able to work. As a self-employed person she will not receive statutory sick pay.
We are therefore reaching out to ask for support in helping to cover her essential living costs so she can focus fully on her recovery without added financial stress. Your donation will go directly towards Amy’s rent, bills and living expenses allowing her to rest and dedicate her energy to healing. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference to her recovery.
Thank you so much for reading Amy's story and for your support.
With gratitude,
Emma and Lua Bairstow
