My 7-year-old daughter accidentally swallowed a quarter-sized button battery on Christmas Eve. It got lodged in the lower third of her esophagus and caused severe damage. We were told our best course of action was to go to St. Louis Children's Hospital. We live over 4 hours away from the hospital. They could not find transportation, so we ended up having to drive up here ourselves with our daughter, as the battery was still in her esophagus for over 7 hours.
Right now she is stable (all thanks to God), but we are still scheduled to be here at least another week and a half or more. She's on a feeding tube and will be for a long time; we don't know exactly how long yet. With the fact that this is so rare and there's not a lot of data, the doctors and us just don't know our next move.
I've missed a week of work and I'm going to have to miss more. We have 5 other kiddos at home and we are struggling financially with all of this. I'm not asking for a lot; just anything will help right now. If you can't help financially, please just send a prayer up to God as we have been doing every day. Thank you.
