Tyson Michael Maxwell Godwin: 4/12/1996 - 21/06/2023
Hi, my name is Amanda Pope and I've started this fundraiser for my good friends Lisa and Pat.
Lisa and Pat are going through one of the toughest times any parent could ever go through. Their son, Tyson, passed away at 4pm on Wednesday, 21st June 2023.
Tyson was just 26 years old and in the prime of his life. He is a son, a brother and a father himself, and he came from a large family. No one had any idea he was so desperate. He didn’t tell anyone. Lisa and Pat would have moved heaven and earth to help him, if only they’d known. Now, it's too late.
He was a good man, and a wonderful son. He might have been lost, confused, too scared to reach out, but Tyson was a good man and a wonderful son. He battled mental health problems all his life, diagnosed with ASD and ADHD as a child, he struggled at school, and socially from a young age. The school system labelled him as a “naughty boy” due to his inability to sit still, concentrate and learn. He was offered little to no support through his school years no matter which school he attended. Tyson was put in the too hard basket.
But he was always so full of life. Yes, he was cheeky and got up to no good as a kid. But he was also the sweetest, most loyal and loving little boy. Tyson hid his learning difficulties and tried desperately to live a life that he thought was expected of him. Sometimes he got it right and sometimes not.
At around 20 years of age, he left Queensland searching for his place in the world. He was doing well in Victoria for a number of years. He was working and became a father. However, a series of both unfortunate and tragic events beginning with COVID (like many of us) and the lockdowns and separation took their toll.
Then the unspeakable happened. Tyson's mother’s tragic death, due to a domestic violence crime in September 2021, saw him spiral and the demons came back.
Unfortunately, Tyson felt he could not ask for help. He was let down by the system in school and didn’t believe that he could ever be “normal”. He so desperately wanted to deny his vulnerability. As he believed that as a man, he should be strong and able to handle anything.
Tyson died by his own hand, in his home in Victoria, he leaves behind a partner and two small children, as well as his family. His siblings were his lifeline and he loved them all dearly. He died thinking no one cared, that he was hopeless and could never be a normal person. His partner is devastated, his children will now grow up without their Daddy.
The family are broken right now, and they need help. They need to bring Tyson's body home to Brisbane. He can then rest, at peace with his mother and family here in Brisbane.
