As a grandmother, it's incredibly difficult to watch my family struggle despite doing everything right. My grandson, a hardworking production manager, and his wife, a dedicated nurse, are loving and committed parents to their young son; who was diagnosed with autism and with very high support needs. When insurance wouldn't cover the therapy he needed, they paid out of pocket—determined to give him every opportunity. His therapy requires a 45-minute drive each way, twice a day, five days a week, with sessions running from 1pm to 6pm. This blocks off time in which one of them cannot work. Soon after diagnoses COVID hit, devastating them emotionally and financially. Mortgage payments skyrocketed, and they live in an area hit hard by Hurricane Helene, which have brought more unexpected expenses. To avoid daycare costs, they've had to split their living arrangements just to make it all work.

They are a Christian family with strong faith that has carried them through the hardest times. Their values, commitment, and work ethic are unwavering, but the weight of everything has made it harder and harder to stay afloat.
