Lori Mayer Gauthier's cancer fight

It takes a village….

You often hear people say that “it takes a village to raise a child”.  While this is certainly true, I believe we need that same village sometimes more so as an adult.  Our problems get bigger and sadly, more expensive.

I would like to reach out to our “village”, our community, our friends on behalf of my little sister, Lori Mayer Gauthier and her family.

In one second a person’s whole life and that of those around them can change.  One night my 34 year old sister was hurriedly changing into pajamas, as mothers of young children tend to do, and she noticed something was not quite right.  She had to consciously keep herself from rushing past the mirror that night, and what began as a small disruption in her nightly routine turned into a blur of doctor’s appointments and tests.  She quickly found out how lucky she was that she stopped and trusted that small voice inside her head saying “maybe something is wrong” because something WAS VERY WRONG.  Lori has been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a very sneaky and very aggressive type of breast cancer that has already spread to two lymph nodes.

My sister, Lori is the strongest person I know.  Cancer just isn’t ready for her—her will, her strength, her determination.  She gets what she wants and right now what she wants most in this world is to spend more time with her sweet family.  To see her two year old, Graham, grow into the wonderful man she will raise him to be, to see Grace, the eight year old, in her wedding dress and Daniel, the five year old, in the policeman uniform he swears he will wear one day.  She wants to celebrate her 50 year anniversary with Peter, her loving husband of 13 years and maybe meet a grandchild or two.

Unfortunately, Lori’s fight comes at a cost not only mentally and physically but financially.  She has enough to worry about.  Let’s see if we can help alleviate this worry so she can concentrate on more important things like taking Daniel to his first day of kindergarten in a few weeks (or beating cancer, maybe that too).  Sometimes it takes a village to raise up an adult so that she can raise her children.

Thank you in advance on behalf of our entire family.
