Luz Amparo, a caring and compassionate mother of two, is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with myeloid acute leukemia. Although Luz has medical insurance, it does not cover all of her expenses. Luz was born and raised in Manizales, Colombia and moved to the United States for economic opportunity over 10 years ago. Her faith in God has seen her through this trying challenge.

In August 2014, Luz became increasingly tired from simple tasks and was diagnosed with an unrelated illness. After a month in a hospital in Los Angeles, she decided to travel back to Colombia to be with one of her daughters and her extended family. Her husband and her other daughter left their work in the Los Angeles area and moved to be with her. Much to everyone's surprise, in mid-December, she was diagnosed with this high-risk form of cancer while at Unidad Cardio Infantil in Bogota, Colombia. She has since endured five
rounds of chemotherapy treatment. Her only hope of survival was with a bone marrow transplant. Three agonizing months passed without the prospect of a suitable match and so Luz moved to Houston, TX for specialized care at the highly regarded University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She had an umbilical cord transplant in early July of this year.

While there, Luz is able to stay in free temporary housing at Hospitality Apartments. They provide a safe, welcome, comfortable and supportive environment for families in need of this special care while a loved one is undergoing medical treatment. Luz needs to remain in Houston for another three to four months and needs a caregiver 24/7. Over the last few weeks, her family has been rotating in this role of being there for her.

All of the money raised will give Luz the resources to fight the illness and help with familial support and caregiving. Her family has been devastated by this both emotionally and financially. Everyone has been supportive, but the expenses have taken their toll. Luz has been remarkably courageous through all of this and wants to keep fighting it head on. She knows that with God’s grace she will be able to survive this.

Su fe en Dios ha sido su gran aliado en esta dificil prueba.
Estando en Los Angeles en Agosto del 2014 Luz empezó a sentirse demasiado cansada y muy enferma, estuvo hospitalizada alrededor de un mes, ella decidió regresar a Colombia donde una de sus hijas y familiares para su recuperación.
Su esposo y su otra hija dejaron sus trabajos en Los Angeles y decidieron regresar a Colombia para estar con Luz.
Para sorpresa de todos en la segunda semana de Diciembre, ella fue diagnosticada con un cáncer de alto riesgo razón por la que fue admitida de inmediato a la Unidad Cardioinfantil en Bogotá, desde entonces ha recibido cinco ciclos de quimioterapia.
La única manera de sobrevivir a esta enfermedad es un transplante de médula ósea. Después de esperar tres meses de agonía y no encontrar el donante compatible con Luz, se decidió trasladar a Houston, TX al MD Anderson Cancer Center dónde recibió el transplante de cordón umbilical al comienzo de Julio.
Luz esta viviendo en un apartamento de hospitalidad gratuita, donde le proporcionan atención a los pacientes que necesitan atención médica especial.
Luz tiene que permanecer en Houston por otros tres a cuatro meses y necesita del alguien que esté al cuidado de ella 24/7.
Todo el dinero recaudado se dará a Luz y su familia para ayudarla en este momento critico de su enfermedad, su familia está afectada tanto emocional como económicamente.
Luz ha sido una luchadora incansable durante este proceso de su enfermedad y con la fe en Dios que será capaz de sobrevivir a esto.
