My name is Katha and my partners name is Chris. We live in Germany and we started this GoFundMe to support our family in Black River, Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa. As many of you have seen in the news, the devastating hurricane struck the Caribbean, leaving behind destruction, grief, and despair.

Every single cent we raise will go directly into the hands of our family which is suffering from the hurricane’s aftermath. The roof of my mother-in-law was completely destroyed and the structure of the house damaged along with those of neighbouring family and friends. This led to losing most of her belongings as well - her bed, electrical appliances, electronics and clothes were all destroyed, as well as her crops that help support her livelihood as a retired pensioner.

Unfortunately, GoFundMe doesn’t allow direct bank transfers to Jamaica, so the funds will go through my account and then be sent to them!

So many people have lost everything; their homes, their livelihoods, their pets,... The hurricane didn’t just take roofs and walls, it tore apart dreams, safety, and memories built over a lifetime.

Losing the roof over your head, or the life you have built over the years, is something most of us can barely imagine.

Whatever you can spare, please, let it be a gesture of hope.

Because hope is the one thing no hurricane can wash away.

The Caribbean islands contribute the least to climate change, yet they suffer its harshest consequences. Let’s stand together ❤️
