For anyone who ever met Luca, you knew what an absolute sweetheart he truly was. The softest, kindest most gentle pitbull with an unhealthy addiction to his ball. We got Luca in November of 2015, he was so
small he could fit in our hands. At 4 weeks old we had to bottle feed him formula like he truly was our little baby. He had so many health issues as a puppy from mange to dietary allergies but we did everything we could to keep him healthy and happy. Over the years he grew to be strong and the happiest pup you ever met. Through all the hard times we took him through, he took us through just as many. Through breakups and sickness, family feuds and heartbreak. Luca was our rock. A cuddle bug who would sleep in till noon with you if you were having a bad day. Or would play with you from sun up till sun down. He knew both my niece and nephew from when they were babies and I thought one day he would meet my babies. I kept him in such great health thinking I would have the pit bull that defied the norm and lived for 15 years. Our world was shattered when last Tuesday Luca was hit by a drunk driver. The coward fled the scene but was chased down and brought to justice. We took Luca to the nearest vet who was of no help. We had to take him to another location who told us there was nothing we could for him. Finally through the help of spreading his story we found UC Davis. They did extensive imaging and testing on him and gave us the option of surgery. This was our beacon of hope, that all came crushing down once again when we heard the state Luca would live the rest of his life in. Completely paralyzed on the lower half of his body, he would never play with his beloved ball again. He would never run into our arms after a long day at work. He would be in diapers and need intense rehab and care. He didn’t deserve what happened to him and he didn’t deserve to live in pain. Luca had been our rock, taken us through the hardest times in life. It was our turn to be there for him, in the most devastating of times. We decided to humanely put him down. After saying our goodbyes we buried him in the most beautiful location as a family. Although we can no longer hear his little paws come running through the halls, he is with us. He will live forever in our memories as a happy healthy puppy running after his ball and then refusing to drop it. If you would like to visit his memorial please reach out and I will give you the location.
The vet bills we procured from fighting for his life are a heart wrenching reminder of the loss we have suffered. If you ever shared a special moment with Luca or even loved him from afar, we would be forever grateful for your donation. Anything helps.
Thank you❤️
