We have all heard the Reba song... A single mom who works two jobs, who loves her kids and never stops... Well, that's my sister La'Keisha. Unfortunately, Keisha (what family and friends call her) has been through literal Hell these past 9 years.
In 2016, her daughter, Averi, passed away. One year later, her son, Kesean, was in a drowning accident where he needed to be resuscitated. It is unknown how long he was underwater. Five years after the near-drowning accident, Kesean was involved in a near-fatal, single-car accident. He suffered extensive injuries, including a broken femur, several broken vertebrae, and a traumatic brain injury. Caring for Kesean has been a constant struggle; the traumatic brain injury caused mental deficits that he struggles with daily. This has led to Keisha having to limit her work hours to care for him. Keisha has attempted to obtain disability benefits for him, but they are saying that he doesn't qualify because he can work on a limited basis. She was given a list of things he can do, but unfortunately, with his mental health issues, these jobs are not suitable for him. Keisha is still fighting this decision.
Just recently, on October 12th, 2025 (one day before her birthday), Keisha, her son Jaylin, bonus baby Elyssa, and Ely'Asia (grandbaby) were in a terrible accident while heading to church. Keisha was trying to avoid hitting a deer, and her vehicle overcorrected, went off the road, into a ditch, and slammed into a tree. By the grace of God, all lives were spared. Elyssa and Ely'Asia walked away with minor injuries. Jaylin sustained a broken femur and scalp lacerations. Keisha sustained arm lacerations and broke her foot/ankle in 5 places. Jaylin was transferred to Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, NC, where his broken femur was surgically repaired. Keisha has spent every day since the accident taking care of her children, Kesean, Jaylin, and Kynli, despite her injury. She expected to be able to go back to work this week, but her fractures are still not healed enough to drive and do any unnecessary walking. This means that she will not be able to work for another 4-6 weeks. This puts Keisha in a severe financial deficit. She is currently behind on all of her bills, including rent, and since her car was totaled, she will need a vehicle to get back and forth to work.
Keisha is too proud to ask for help, so I am going to do it for her. Her mental status has not been well through all of this. Because she is too proud, her mental health is being affected. She is stressed thinking about how she will make ends meet, feed her children, and purchase a vehicle so she will have transportation to travel to work. She has been sitting home for a month and a half, and it has made her severely depressed. We know that God is in control of everyone and everything and makes the impossible, POSSIBLE!! Let's help Keisha get back on her feet by lessening her burden. If a donation at this time is not possible, a prayer and a share are welcome and appreciated. With everything she has been through, I don't know how she is able to smile. Her struggles are the ultimate test, and like Reba says in the song... She's a survivor.
