Karen's Hope
Donation protected
Karen's Hope is being founded for the purpose of finding alternative cancer treatments and remedies. Karen had a rare form of colon cancer. Currently accepted methods of treatment cannot produce a cure or even prolong life. In fact the "standard of care" for her was broad spectrum chemotherapy which caused her nothing but pain and offered little in terms of actual hope: thus our name.
Karen died 12-18-2018 after a 30 month battle.
Few things that are traditional and approved by the medical community brought her any comfort. Despite agonizing requests her doctors refused to look into other forms of treatment and strongly dissuaded the pursuit of anything "not FDA approved".
More needs to be done.
European studies are showing great promise. The problem is that our insurance system simply will not approve anything "outside the box". Even medical marijuana goes unrecognized as being of great assistance during chemo and otherwise. More needs to be done to push into the ideas and studies that are showing promise but are moving at a snail's pace. Our leaders need to step up and address this as well.
Your donations will be used to fund efforts to bring European studies to the attention of the American medical system. It will also be used to fund research here in Ohio. Once you have seen the face of cancer you are haunted by it forever. Unfortunately the medical care system has no eyes. We need to be start of something more than complacency and expectation.
As soon as funds permit, efforts will go forward to partner with our political leaders, medical care leaders and researchers whose only concern is the welfare of cancer patients and not the interests of the providers and insurers. Make a difference.
Current research is focusing on simple medical interventions such as the use of Intraconazole for colon cancer. This simple fungus medication is showing great promise in Euro studies having been proven effective in killing B-Raf mutated CRC. Yet, no one in the US will touch it in human studies. It is possible cures like this that need our attention, and your help.
There are also movements to bring even simpler remedies to light for such afflictions as breast cancer. See this link for a topical review https://www.massroots.com/learn/cannabis-breast-cancer
More can be done. Karen had a great love of her children and her family. She wished she could find more and do more. Maybe we can carry on that spirit of fighting.
