This is Layla. She's the 12-year old daughter of one of my oldest and dearest friends and she needs our help. Layla was recently diagnosed with Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). ITP is a blood disorder characterized by a decrease in the number of platelets in the blood. Platelets are cells in the blood that help stop bleeding. A decrease in platelets can cause easy bruising, bleeding gums, and internal bleeding.
Luckily, it was caught early enough and Layla is being treated for the condition, but the medication she needs is putting her parents in debt; literally. A 30-day supply of the medicine costs over $10K. As Layla's parents are both employed, Layla is covered, but the insurance is barely making a dent on this exorbitant monthly cost!
That's where we are with health insurance in this country; left with the choice of going into debt or depriving our children of the medication they desperately need to stay healthy. Personally, I don't think this is ok. If you agree, please help support this worthy cause by donating whatever amount you are able (however small) and sharing Layla's story. Thank you for reading - stay safe and stay healthy!
