Help for Kandice

Dear friends and family, with great humbleness and gratitude for all those who have offered their love and support to my mother, Kandice, I am creating this GoFundMe page for her because she needs help. As we approach three years this April since she suffered a spinal injury (annular tear and 3 herniated discs) at work, she is still injured, in constant pain and now in more pain than ever. She is stuck in “temporary totally disabled” status and unable to work or do many normal daily activities. Two weeks ago, she underwent a third surgery, a spinal anterior/posterior fusion surgery. Before she even left the hospital, she had to begin battling with adjusters to ensure her pain medications and antibiotics would be approved to be paid for. They were not. This was the first surgery where she was able to be alert and cognizant during recovery and then she regressed.  For six days now, she has been in constant pain; sporadically, her level 9 pain will go to a 7 but then the break through pain attacks her again. We believe it is nerve pain- shooting down her legs. This past week my mom cannot even call my sister or I to keep us updated, when she is finally able to answer the phone, she is crying in pain and can’t speak. She has been unable to sleep for more than one hour at a time. My teenage brothers who live at home with her have been wrapping bags of ice around her legs and ankles. The doctors wrote a new pain med prescription, we have heard nothing from the adjusters. She will not go to the hospital in fear of more medical bills. She has already incurred so many; she has had no health/medical insurance throughout this time. She can’t afford it with the limited income she inconsistently receives. Each month is a struggle to feed herself and the boys, pay rent, car and utilities. It hurts my mom that she needs this assistance, she is embarrassed, she is the hardest worker I know- always working 70-80 hours a week as my siblings and I grew up, up until three years ago. She never stopped working to provide for us. We are so happy to help her now but sadly we do need help.
