Hello, my name is Darrell Markham and I need your help.

Long story, short version

In late April 2023 I received a second degree burn on my left calf. I had surgery on August 2, 2023, and my leg is now healed at the time of this writing.

Unfortunately, my employer let me go in late May leaving me without an income. I immediately began looking for a new job yet each time we got to the “Schedule an interview” stage the recruiters would go dark. So, I hired a firm to help me market my skill set and just as we were getting ready to launch, I was diagnosed with cancer.

Now I am really in a bad space since I have been out of work since May and I now cannot accept a new contract knowing that halfway through, I would need to quit to make time for my cancer treatment which is chemo every week with daily radiation sessions. I live 45 miles away from the hospital, so each daily trip of radiation takes 3 hours and when I add in chemo on Wednesdays it is an all-day affair.

I have sold all my stocks, emptied my bank accounts, borrowed from my mother, and put the property I purchased in Washington for retirement on the market in hopes of keeping my home. unfortunately, with the current inflation, and living in California, I need help covering the additional months’ worth of bills. For the first time in my life, I am asking for help to raise enough funds to carry me through.

2/9/24 Update: Well after 3 weeks of chemo and radiation it is extremely painful to swallow. I am taking Tylenol as often as directed but it only mildly masks the pain. 4 more weeks to go, and then recovery time. I can make it!
