Hope for Hoop

January 3, 2007 was the day Noah Hoop was born and immediately we knew what a strong boy he was and always would be. Immediately he would make everyone in the room happy and was always so full of energy...energy that was contagious and the type you'd be so lucky to be around. I was never shy to brag about my sweet nephew!
Beginning in September 2020, at 13-years-old, Noah began to have central vision problems that got worse over time. Immediately, Noah's parents, Ivy and Mike (my sister & brother-in-law), began taking him to countless tests and doctor appointments including a trip to Miami, to try to figure out what was causing this. The cause of these issues remained a mystery until March 2021 when it was confirmed that Noah has Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), an inherited form of vision loss. It is an extremely rare condition, affecting about 1 in 50,000 individuals, and because it is rare, there is still a lot of research that is still being conducted over this disease.
After the trip to Miami, Noah's retinal specialist informed his parents that Noah would be able to go through a clinical trial - one in which many patients have seen great results to stop this disease and to improve their vision! A medication was also recommended to help Noah out. The clinical trial would be taking place in Nashville, Tennessee.
March 31st was the first day of Noah's clinical trial and the beginning of his journey to hope! Throughout all of the tests and doctor appointments, Noah has been so strong and optimistic...still full of that energy that he had the moment he was born. As of now, Noah will be returning to Nashville in a couple weeks and then again in a month. Follow-up visits will also occur just outside of their city.
Living far away from Noah (he's in Ocala, FL and we are in El Paso, TX), it is hard not being able to physically be there to help the Hoops out with this journey of theirs. Noah’s godfather, Eric Emler, thought of creating this page in hopes of helping with the expenses that will come along the way - since Noah will be receiving treatment outside of their state.
Donations will help to cover: medication and travel expenses along the way.
We know that times are tough right now for everyone, so anything you are willing to donate will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for your willingness to donate and help us find hope for Noah during this difficult time. God bless you and much love sent back to you!
