On April 3 (Good Friday), 2015- Karina Tellinger Martin was diagnosed with IB2 cervical cancer. Despite annual pap smears and numerous office visits the tumor went undiagnosed until it was inoperable without significant jeopardy to surrounding organs, specifically the bladder and colon. Karina received pelvic radiation daily for six weeks to include HDR (high dose internal radiation) and five rounds of chemotherapy running concurrently. She then underwent a laparoscopic complete hysterectomy along with removal of two para-aortic lymph nodes. Surgery was successful- but there were numerous infected nodes that were removed and biopsied; 31 out of the 40 nodes that were removed were involved (cancerous). A CT scan also showed involvement in the right lung. The doctor then recommended another series of more aggressive chemotherapy and radiation for a period of four months. Although Karina felt incredibly blessed with the first round of treatment, the side effects of more aggressive chemotherapy would risk lowering her white blood count and also kill good, healthy cells, not just the cancerous ones.

Karina did research on alternative treatments to cancer. She came across a documentary series called The Truth About Cancer: A Global Quest. Around the same time her daughter Jessica mentioned Hippocrates Health Institute, which offers a holistic approach to arrest disease from the body and restore homeostasis. After much research Karina decided to take this alternative route.

Insurance did cover portions of her conventional treatments, but unfortunately it does not cover natural/holistic treatment. Costs are mounting as a lay-off from full time employment eliminated affordable group health coverage. Karina’s part time work does not provide benefits and working has been hit or miss simply because of the constant doctor’s appointments and life.

Karina has a strong faith and is humbled by the fact that GoFundMe is even an option and is forever grateful to those willing and able to assist in her quest to restored health, whether monetarily or through prayer.
