Hi, my name is Heidi and I recently graduated with a Bachelor's of Science and French as a Second Language, this past June. I have recently completed a Premedical Masters Program in order to continue my medical studies this winter, in pursuit of my life long goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.

When I was young, I watched a documentary about the neuroscience of how strokes affect our brains; this was the catalyst that fostered the desire and discipline to pursue this complex and evolving area of study.

Unexpectedly, my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumour in late 2023. This has coincidentally given me first-hand experience of utilizing the skills I gained during my degree, and prepare me undoubtedly for more complex training.

The dedication her care team at the hospital showed in not only caring for her but alleviating our worries solidified the type of physician I aspire to be in the future. Being able to work positively with families while treating the patient with dignity and respect.

Today, my mom is recovering well from her surgery and in rehab, getting stronger every day. Caring for her and being a part of this experience has further solidified my commitment to becoming a neurosurgeon.This journey has been one of triumphs and hardships and it continues to stretch and strengthen my knowledge, skills and my passion for wanting to serve in the healthcare industry.

I have been fortunate to be accepted to St. Matthew’s University, known for its high-quality education, and strong residency placements. I’ll be attending this medical school out of the country, which doubles the cost that’s required to continue my pursuits.

I’ve been funding my own studies with savings, student loans, and the financial support of my family. This next step of my educational endeavour requires a tremendous increase in funding this part of the journey. With a humble heart, I am asking you to donate what you can to help me achieve my dream.

The funds raised will go towards: Covering tuition fees.

Medical School expenses: specific softwares, textbooks, training materials, etc.
