Hi!
My name is Aliyah Veira, I attend North Springs Highshool and my dream is to go to Columbia University. I love to write spoken word poetry and short stories, I often perform them at local charity events and poetry slams. My poetry is meant to inspire and uplift people, give them a new perspective on their lives as well as my own.
Columbia's advanced english literature program is amazing, and I will do anything in my power to make sure I acheive my goal of graduating from there. I aspire to use my education at Columbia to become an established and successful author and poet.
I work with South Futon Arrow Youth Council, which is an organization that teaches kids leadership skills as well as how to perform, speak, and make differences in our communities.
This organization has taught me how to perform and work hard for what I want and "Hit the bullseye" as we often say. The skills I've learned here have prepared me for life and given me the courage I need to take risks and form the future I want for myself.
I tell you this because I have recently applied for the "Columbia University's Sumer High school Experience" This is an immersive three week program that gives high school students the full college experience.
The students who are selected are allowed to stay on campus, have access to the food hall, and most importantly take classes in a major of their choice. The application proccess is detailed and tedious and students from all over the world apply for this competitive program.
Well guess what... I GOT IN! I was ecstatic when I found out and I still feel jittery and excited whenever I think about it. However, the program costs $10,000 for the on campus experience. I would love to experience living on the campus of the college of my dreams, but of course this is very expensive. My parents are doing everything they can to mak sure I will be able to attend, but I want to help them out by applying to essay contests for scholarships and I would appreciate any contributions very much. I would like to contribute at least $1500 by June 15 to pay for some of my tuition. Help me get to Columbia!!!!
