The Program in Global Mental Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai utilizes the students, residents, and faculty of Mount Sinai and our partners to enhance access to mental health services for people in East Harlem and around the world. We work in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and right here in the U.S. in East Harlem and immigrant detention centers. (https://icahn.mssm.edu/globalmentalhealth).
In this year of the pandemic we're trying to keep up our commitments to our international partners remotely. The mental health shadow cast by the pandemic will be a long one, thrusting trauma and grief upon the vast unmet mental health needs that existed before. Please help us to keep being there now and in the post-pandemic future.
The picture above is the final sketch for the cover of our book on global mental health, A Guide to Global Mental Health: Seeing the Unseen. It represents a street scene in an imaginary post-civil war African country. We share the black and white sketch rather than the final watercolor cover to represent how this year we must see the world from afar rather than in-person in all of its richness.
