Sofía tiene 16 años y desde pequeña fue diagnosticada con Distrofia Muscular de Ullrich, una condición que afecta sus músculos y su capacidad respiratoria. Dejó de caminar a los 9 años, a los 12 fue operada de escoliosis y, a pesar de todo, nunca perdió su sonrisa ni sus ganas de disfrutar la vida, el colegio y el tiempo en familia con su mamá y su hermana.

Hoy Sofi enfrenta un momento muy delicado de salud. Sus pulmones están muy debilitados, lo que también ha afectado a su corazón, y recientemente fue ingresada de emergencia a cuidados intensivos en el Primary Children’s Hospital de Salt Lake City, Utah, con neumonía. Los primeros días fueron muy difíciles: tuvo que ser entubada y su saturación llegó a niveles muy bajos. Aun así, Sofi sigue mostrando la fortaleza que la caracteriza y asombrando a los médicos con sus ganas de salir adelante.

Gracias a los cuidados y al cariño de los profesionales, su respiración ha comenzado a mejorar y existe la posibilidad de poder desentubarla pronto, aunque aún queda un largo camino por recorrer.

Estamos llenos de fe y esperanza en que Sofi seguirá mejorando día a día. Como se imaginarán, los gastos médicos son astronómicos y al estar junto a ella para cuidarla en todo sentido, su mamá no puede trabajar en este momento. Toda ayuda y oración es un apoyo inmenso para nuestra guerrera y para quienes la acompañamos en este proceso.

Sofía is 16 years old and was diagnosed at a young age with Ullrich Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that affects her muscles and her respiratory system. She stopped walking at age 9, underwent scoliosis surgery at 12, and despite everything, she has never lost her smile or her love for life, school, and spending time with her mom and older sister.

Today, Sofi is facing a very delicate health situation. Her lungs have become severely weakened, which has also affected her heart, and she was recently admitted to intensive care at the Primary Children’s hospital in Salt Lake City, with pneumonia. The first days were extremely difficult: she had to be intubated, and her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low. Even so, Sofi continues to show the strength that defines her, amazing the doctors with her determination to keep fighting.

Thanks to the care and kindness of the medical team, her breathing has begun to improve and there is hope she may be extubated soon, although there is still a long road ahead.

We are full of faith and hope that Sofi will continue improving day by day. As you can imagine, the medical expenses are astronomical, and since her mom needs to be by her side caring for her around the clock, she is unable to work at this time. Any support or prayer means the world to our warrior and to everyone walking this journey with her.
