Let's lift Lindsey and Mike Long up in prayer as well as bless them financially through Mike's new battle with Cancer.
Both Lindsey and Mike are cancer survivors. Lindsey fought hard and won her Battle with Breast Cancer then went back to nursing school where she works hard as the baby whisperer in the NICU. Mike was in remission from Appendiceal Cancer for the last six years. This spring Mike was faced with areas of concern on his PET scan. A biopsy reveals the area was Mucin producing so they went down to California for a procedure and HIPEC Chemo. The surgeon also removed lots of build up and adhesions that have been causing pain for years as well from his previous cancer surgeries. The doctors were sure they got everything, however, this months scan showed new areas of growth.
Mike and Lindsey will go down to Arizona to the Cancer Center of America. At this time we are unsure of the amount of time they will have to stay away from home, their jobs, family, and their beautiful 9 year old daughter Harper. Mike is young, has the heart of Gold, and is true Fighter. He has remained positive throughout his whole journey and is the glue that holds the family together. He is his little girls whole world, her rock, and Hero. He continues his effort to fight with every measure and ounce of energy, so he can one day watch his baby girl graduate high school, walk his daughter down the aisle and dance at her wedding, and watch her meet every future milestone.
This process isn't going to be an easy one. It will me emotionally, physically, and financially taxing. Both Lindsey and Mike will be unable to work during this time. They both just recently exhausted all their PTO time between Lindsey's recent hysterectomy then time off for Mike's treatment in California. Additionally, over the years they have exhausted many resources in their fight to be cancer free. They have never asked for any hand outs through any of this and accrued lots of medical debt in the process. Yet, they never let that stop them from pursuing happiness, achieving new goals, living life to its fullest, or generously helping others around them.
They are both very hard working, outstanding human beings, and a role models to our children for adapting to change, illness, and the peaks and valleys of life. Through all of this, Lindsey and Mike have always kept their humor, love for one another, and place Harper at the forefront of their world.
Mike is an exceptional dad and family man. He loves his family fearlessly and is present in all facets of life. He knows life is a gift and places his family and friends at the center of it. He doesn't take life too seriously and through his actions reminds others around him to live in the moment and enjoy what life has to offer despite the hand you have been dealt.
Lindsey and Mike will forever be my Hero's. They are both great examples of perseverance and strength. Lindsey lifted me through nursing school (while our husbands cheered us on from the sidelines). She carried me through my various illnesses and sacrifices so much time helping others. It's their turn to receive our help,( their community), so they can focus on their family and Mike's healing journey.
