Alma, my 8-year-old dachshund, faces a life-threatening spinal condition and urgently needs surgery to walk again.

Just last week, she went from being wobbly on her feet to completely paralyzed in her back legs. (Video of Alma unable to walk) After seeing several vets, I finally found a neurosurgeon who confirmed, after reviewing her MRI, that immediate surgery is critical. Alma’s case is complicated—she has two areas of concern in her spine and a suspected hematoma—and she has also lost control of her bladder and bowels. The good news is she isn’t in pain, and if surgery happens right away, her prognosis for recovery is very strong.

Alma is the sweetest, most sensitive dog I’ve ever had; she’s incredibly special and I love her so much. This has been heartbreaking and overwhelming, especially because I’m in the middle of a major life transition: I’m moving back to the U.S. after 11 years in Mexico to be near my parents. I hadn’t planned to still be here, and I’ve already spent much of the little money I’d saved for the move. I’m honestly grateful to be in a place where costs are more manageable, but I still need help right now.

The estimated cost of spinal surgery, hospitalization, and rehab is $4,000 USD—a fraction of what it would be in the U.S. I’ve set a first goal of $2,800 to begin raising what she needs. Every donation, no matter the size, brings Alma closer to walking again. If you can’t give, sharing this campaign is just as valuable.

My hope is not only to save my dog, but to restore her quality of life. Thank you, truly, for your support of my sweet little lady. ❤️

Note: the original costs are in pesos, but I’ve converted them to USD for simplicity.
