Representing Team Canada at IPF Worlds!

Hi Everyone!

I am Sylvia Atkinson and fundraising for upcoming powerlifting competitions.

I will be representing Team Canada at the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) World Powerlifting Championships in Newfoundland on October 12, 2022.

I also have an upcoming meet at CPU (Canadian Powerlifting Union) Nationals in Vancouver in February 2023.

I started my powerlifting journey in

2018 with a goal to make it to the World Championships one day.

I was 45 years young and I trained seriously. It paid off when I got gold at my first local meet. I was thrilled and was just getting started!

The following year, I continued to work hard and placed first at a local meet that allowed me to compete at a regional and provincial level. Things were moving along! I earned first and second place, moving me to a national level competition.

2020 was a pivotal year (so I thought), as I came in first at Nationals in March in Winnipeg. This was what I was working for! I qualified to be on Team Canada at a World level competition in 2021. However, this was not meant to be, as COVID-19 changed everyone’s plans.

Throughout the last 2 years, I have stayed motivated, continued my training and was determined to secure a spot on Team Canada. This year would be my last opportunity to compete as a Masters 1 lifter.

With things getting better, competition was back on! It was intense in May, as I placed second at the Nationals in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

After years of hard work, patience and perseverance, I am so proud to be representing Canada at the World Powerlifting Championships on October 12th, 2022 in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Before the big day, there is a substantial cost in getting there. As the responsibility falls on the competitor to fund the trip and the competition fees, I am asking for donations for the following items below. Any amount would be appreciated!

Hotel - $1015

Flight to St. John’s- $446

Competition tracksuit- $250

Competition gear- $280

Competition entry fee- $250

Total cost for Worlds : $ 2241 CAD

Addtional costs for upcoming meet in Vancouver, BC in 2023 to include flight and Hotel.

All funds raised will go directly to helping pay for this competition and all future competitions I will be competing at!
