Yesterday morning, I noticed my cat, Windsor, was not acting like himself and was lethargic, did not eat, drink, did not pee or poo, and was hiding from me all day. I took him to the emergency hospital and received some bad news. Windsor had a urinary blockage, not too sure what caused this but could have been due to stress (I bought him a Christmas sweater earlier this week, he did not like it). The Doc. told me that his K+ (Potassium) levels were extremely toxic, his was 9.9 (Normal Range: 3.5-5.8) and his BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) and Cr (Creatinine) were extremely high levels. What this means is because Windsor is not excreting any urine (contains waste products from the body) his potassium levels are extremely toxic which is not good for him and is causing him excruciating pain and inflammation of his bladder. Not only that but labs this toxic can also mean acute kidney injury and can lead to kidney failure. His blood was also, so toxic there was a chance his heart would fail. This was considered an emergency issue, my only option was to continue treatment, regardless of the cost. He's my best friend and my love! I rescued Windsor from an animal hospital. I took one look at him and knew that I had to have him. He is almost 3, his birthday is on December 1st, next week! Unfortunately, this type of procedure is costly. I had to pay out of pocket $3200! There is also the possibility that I will be charged an extra $1000 if Windsor has to stay an extra night at the hospital (Total $4200). As for me, I am currently a nursing student and have basically no money. I work part-time, 2 days a week at a restaurant (now closed due to COVID-19), and attend school full time. I am in need of your help. I understand that it is hard times and most likely will continue to be hard in the near months to come, so, I hate to ask. If you are not hurting financially from the pandemic, I ask that you would consider helping me by supporting me financially, so, I may pay the hospital bills for my best friend and my kitten, Windsor. I cannot imagine my life without him, these past few hours leaving him at the vet has been some of the hardest few hours in 2020. I know that most of you'll probably not meet Windsor since he isn't welcoming to strangers but I know he would be so thankful, and so would I. Thank you. Happy Holidays, Please, stay safe and God Bless!
