I'm Finn (he/they), a 24-year-old transmasculine guy who finally got their date for top surgery!! It's all happening on August 31st and the surgery bill is due by June 20th. Money is tight, but this surgery is a necessary gender-affirming and life-saving procedure.
I'm a full-time student in California about to graduate with a B.A. in Psychology while working 2 jobs to save up for the medical bills. I came out about two years ago, but I have been questioning my gender for most of my life. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, I had a lot of time to reflect on where I felt comfortable and how I wanted to express myself. I shaved my head for the first time and experimented with a lot of different clothes. I got my first chest binder, which opened up a whole new type of euphoria and dysphoria. Binding at work can be painful, while not binding (just wearing a sports bra) leads to more misgendering and anxiety. Most days I choose to bind, despite the pain, because it makes me feel more authentically me. The fact that I continue to experience euphoria and have a support system is a privilege. I am so very thankful to be where I am now and to have access to surgery.
Following the procedure, I'll be on bed rest and unable to work for at least a month. This GoFundMe will be going directly toward the surgery bill ($3,285.00), the hospital facility fee (TBD), the anesthesia fee (TBD), rent, meals (as cooking for myself will be tricky), and post-op supplies and medication.
I will be getting surgery through the Gender Confirmation Center in San Francisco with Dr. Scott Mosser. Here is a link to more general info about top surgery on their website: https://www.genderconfirmation.com/ftm-chest/
Thank you friends, loved ones, and kind strangers for reading and supporting me!
Finn :)
