Matt needs your help with medical expenses not covered by his insurance. Matt has had a hard year medically, and the expenses are adding up quickly.
In February of 2023 Matt was sent over to OHSU to have his pancreas scoped, his pancreas is failing… He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and has been put on replacement enzymes to be able to absorb nutrients from food. He has lost over 60 pounds, my 6’2” son weighs 135 pounds. He has developed a stage four pressure ulcer with exposed bone from being so skinny and now he needs major reconstructive surgery. He had surgery in September to remove what was just a small cyst, That was just the beginning, after eight weeks of having Wound Care come to the house three days a week, the surgery was 90% healed. Everything looked really good, then suddenly the wound opened back up and started growing. Now At this point the wound is 7 cm x 9 cm x 3 cm deep. Exposing his seat Bone. He needs reconstruction surgery. There is no longer any doctors in Central Oregon that do the surgery, which is going to require him to go to OHSU where they only have three doctors that do the surgery and right now the earliest they can do it is August. Which is scary for a mom, there’s a lot of risk of infection with the exposed bone. A massive infection could be deadly. This is requiring tons of Extra Care, including multiple trips to the hospital for IV antibiotics. The most current being a two week run of two different types of IV antibiotics. He needs a specialty bed, a new wheelchair designed for better pressure relief, a Hoyer lift to be able to move him around, and hundreds of dollars worth of Medical supplies and bandages each WEEK!
He’s doing all the right things! He even quit drinking, over a year now! Now he has quit smoking, a requirement for the surgery. His spirits are good and he has a wonderful woman in his life.
We can’t do this alone. The bills just keep coming in. Even with really good insurance. It’s impossible to keep up.
Thank you for any help you can give, every little bit counts. I will be eternally grateful for any and all help getting my son through this.
