On behalf of all her friends and family as we could not say it any better, here is a message from her bestie Erin-

If anyone knows my best friend Stephanie, you will know this is the hardest thing for me to write. Three weeks ago, she called me because she decided she wanted to make everything about her and she dropped the biggest bomb on me. She told me she had Colon Cancer! Wait… WHAT?!?! My first thought was NOT TODAY SATAN NOT TODAY!! How does a healthy 38 year old have cancer? THANKS 2020, as if it couldn’t get any worse let’s just pour some salt in that wound. As she was telling me this heartbreaking news I was angry, sad, hurt, frustrated and every negative emotion was rushing through me (because this obviously about my feelings) she cried with me and then started to make jokes to make me laugh. That’s just who she is! She hears terrible news and can turn around and just make light of things. This is why I love her more than anything… well maybe not more than tacos!!

All jokes aside, we all have someone in our lives that we can lean on, someone to support you, to confide in, and to just love you for you... That is my girl Steph. When she told me the news I was shattered. I went for a quick drive (maybe that wasn’t a good idea) but I literally ugly cried so hard, pulled over, and screamed at the top of my lungs- “NO GOD!!! NOT HER! I don’t think I have cried that hard and or prayed that hard in my entire life. This is the impact she has made in just my life... She is my soul sister! I couldn’t get through this crazy life without her.

A little background on our chick, Steph. She is a mother of 2 sometimes 3 (hint hint TODD!!) incredibly smart, strapping, young men (12 and 15 years old). They are taking things in stride and being strong for their mama. Benjamin of course rationalizes everything and brings a calm and sensitive approach to the situation. Adam, with his inquisitive mind is not shy about asking whatever comes to mind. She told me he asked her what she would do if she lost her hair. She told him she’d just cut it. In true Adam fashion he went on to ask if she’d lose her eyebrows because she would look really funny without her eyebrows! She of course laughed and wrote it down on her list of questions to ask the oncologist on his behalf.

She is truly the most genuine person you will ever meet. If we could just have more Stephanie’s in this world it would be covered in butterflies and rainbows. She doesn’t have a mean bone in that body of hers. She is someone I look up to on a daily basis and my kids idolize her as well. She is that one person you can go to with anything and she will just make it better somehow some way. She is a true angel in our eyes!

She found her passion and true calling in the medical field. She got her Health Science Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. She has been working as a Sonographer (ultrasound tech) for 6 years. With her natural nurturing instincts she has helped her patients through some of the most life altering diagnoses and she does it with such ease and compassion. She has committed her life to helping people and right now she could use a little help herself.

Obviously this is not going to be an easy ride for her. She was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer and because of the location of the mass the doctors have decided the best course of action will be to start 5 weeks of chemo/radiation to shrink the mass. After that she will have a resting period to get that junk out of her system. Then they will schedule the surgery to remove the mass. Once the surgery is done she will have another resting period to recover and then she will have 24 more weeks of chemo. Needless to say this is going to be a long process for her but she has an awesome team of doctors helping her fight the good fight.

Stephanie isn’t one to ask for help. She wouldn’t want to be a burden. But she should reach out, she should ask for help because this isn’t easy. The hardest thing about asking for help is feeling like you are helpless, but she’s not helpless, she is hopeful. Cancer is a difficult diagnosis, but her spirits are high (of course because that’s just how she is) and she is going into this with a positive attitude.

This will obviously impact her financially and I don’t want to see her struggle any more than she already will be during this trying time. That’s why we, her friends have put this go fund me together for her. So, I am asking all of you fabulous people out there to help her like she’s helped many of us so many times… even a prayer or positive vibes sent her way would be appreciated more than you know. Every little bit will count and help her continue to stay positive.

Thank you for reading Stephanie’s story!
