RIP Sylvia

Olly is organising this fundraiser in aid of Juliette and her dear mother Sylvia who we tragically lost to heart failure last week and will be sorely missed by everyone that had the pleasure of coming across her path.
Whilst Juliette and her family are receiving support from their friends and family, it is at times like this where friends gather together to offer their support financially and/or emotionally to help out with people that deserve such help.
I firstly want to start with Juliette. I first met Juliette 7 years ago when I applied for the job I am currently in now. She was working as the receptionist for a building on Throgmorton Street, but I still remember how friendly she greeted me despite me being a total randomer. Perhaps she could see I was quite nervous, but that is a classic example of Juliette’s big heart and warmth that she radiates onto others.
Needless to say, I got the job at Throgmorton Street, and over the years I got to know Juliette much better. I can wholeheartedly say that there are very few people that I know that have a heart as big as hers. Asides from our daily chats, that could cover a myriad of topics, I have other very fond memories. One particular highlight was getting to see how much her beloved Nigeria meant to her when the Super Eagles rocked up to play England at Wembley. It took a good week or so for my eardrums to recover…
It was a very emotional day when she left Throgmorton Street nearly a year or two ago. As well as Throgmorton Street, she would also work at Millwall football club on home game weekends where her smile and energy were not wasted working the post-match bars. Being the creative talent that she is though, she had decided she could do more with her abilities and that she would finally go it alone with her gift packaging business. Having worked tirelessly to win a trial contract to display her products in John Lewis’ stores, Covid has brought all that hard work to a halt.
Despite having very little, Juliette would always be willing to share what little she had. I can think of countless times she would go out of her way to cheer someone up or buy people a birthday present. This is clearly a trait she inherited from her dear mother who despite coming from a very poor family would give everything she could to her children and the wider community. Living thousands of miles apart, one could see Juliette making her daily video call to her mum, and I know how big a part of her life she was.
Well today, I am asking for your help and generosity to give back to someone that deserves a proper send off. I am asking for anything you can provide, no matter how small, as I know it would mean the world for Juliette to be able to make it back to Nigeria for the funeral, but also give her dear mother the send-off she deserves. Juliette and her siblings have raised as much as they could, but this is not enough. Given her status in the community many people want to attend and that requires the sum of money we are looking to raise, along with fees to the hospital.
Many of us are fortunate enough that we have not lost our mothers, and if we have, we have been able to give them the goodbye they deserved. I write this knowing how much it would mean to one of the most caring people I know, if we could make this happen for her. On behalf of Juliette and her family we would like to thank you in advance for your generosity and support during this very sad time.
This fund will be personally withdrawn by me and given to Juliette outside of GoFundMe so that it can assist her with some of the funeral costs for her dear Mother Sylvia.
