The gift of a lifetime; help fund Hans top surgery

Donation protected
G’day! My name is Nikki, but we’re here today so I can tell you a bit about my little non-binary, trans masculine brother, Han.
Han, lovingly known as Bilbo by my son (pictured above) is a full time uni student, studying nursing and working part time to pay for psych appointments.

Since we were kids,  Han has always resented wearing anything feminine. The adults would always say ‘oh, she’s just a tomboy’ or ‘it’s just a phase’. We spent a lot of time together when we were kids, being homeschooled for most of our early childhood, and I can assure you that it was never ‘just a phase.’ Han has always been Han, and Han has always felt wrongly labelled as a Female.

When end you’re born into a body you don’t identify with, every day is a struggle. Han has suffered with mental health issues throughout his teenage years, including clinically diagnosed anxiety and depression. I remember when he hit puberty, he was devastated. While most of us cic gendered females were excited about getting boobs, Han started wearing clothes that were baggy to hide their body, gained weight and self excluded.

It has been a long road to get here, Han has been meeting regularly with psychologists and specialist doctors over the last year and has been approved to start Testosterone. Han binds his chest everyday, which is not only uncomfortable, it can be painful due to the size of his chest.

We attended a consultation with a top surgeon this morning, and that brings us to why we’re here. I’m asking for your help to fund the top surgery, because it’s an elective surgery and Han doesn’t have the health insurance cover for it, it goes through as a private case.

Han isn’t the type to ask for help, but as a full time student self-funding isn’t a viable option for anytime in the near future. At the moment he is talking about taking a year off to work full time to fund the surgery, but if we can band together we might be able to help him start his new life sooner!

The next appointments available are in February 2020 and the costs associated for Bilateral breast reduction with Free Nipple Grafting are as follows

Surgeons fees $5,500
Anaesthetist fees $1,835 (approximately)
Hospital stay $3,920 (day case)

- 10% deposit of $550 given from Hans dad Mark, outside the GoFundMe

bringing the grand total to $10,705

anything you can contribute would be absolutely incredible and greatly appreciated!
