Passing of Father from stage 4 colon cancer
Donation protected
Update:
It is with a heavy heart, deep sorrow, and disbelief that l announce the passing of my father following his 15 month fight with cancer.
For those who knew Hiram, his generous spirit and infectious humor were undeniable. He was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend. His resilience and determination always prevailed, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
I want to thank everyone for all the calls, texts, food, gift cards, and sharing the love you all had of Hiram. He was the strongest person I’ve ever known. There’s nothing I can write that would ever do him any justice or show the world what an amazing human being he was.
During these challenging times for my family, we humbly ask for even the smallest acts of kindness—a donation, a heartfelt call, or a social media share—can deeply impact our family's journey. My father always emphasized the importance of supporting loved ones, and now, facing this difficult time, I'm reaching out for help.
Currently, our family is in need of any support. My father was the sole provider to his family and his illness only exacerbated my family’s financial burdens. While we understand the difficulties everyone faces, raising awareness could greatly assist us in navigating this unexpected chapter of life.
Despite his illness, my father diligently secured some benefits for my mother, yet they remain out of reach for the time being. Any support offered during this trying time would be immensely appreciated.
Hiram was a beacon of strength, compassion, love, and the guiding light that illuminated our darkest moments. His unwavering willingness to give to others, even in the face of his own struggles, embodied his selflessness and generosity. The void he has left in my heart and the hearts of those who loved him can never be filled, but his legacy of courage in the face of unbelievable odds continues to inspire. Though the pain of his absence is profound, finding comfort in the end of his suffering brings a measure of peace. Our love for him transcends words, and his memory will forever be cherished as a symbol of strength and love. Te quiero mucho, Papi!

My name is Patricia Soukup and I’m fundraising for my father who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. It was the week of Christmas when he started feeling unwell, but he dismissed it as a side effect of his new diabetes medication. I remember when my mom called and said they had found a mass, but not to worry. Not only were we told Hiram had stage 4 cancer that week, but that it had a spread to his liver and lymph nodes.
If you know Hiram, you know he is one of the most giving and funniest human beings there is. He is a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend! I don’t even remember a time where he didn’t figure out how to make something work, even if it sounded impossible. He is one of the hardest working people I know. This has made the decision to start a GofundMe a difficult one because to know Hiram, you would know asking anyone for financial help is rare, but one that could no longer wait.
My dad is a fighter and has always done what he needs to do. He has spent a lifetime taking care of his family, he has served his country in the Army, and now we’re ask for your help to care for him. Stage 4 is aggressive and it’s spreading. Because of this my father had to start chemo right away and it has taken a toll on him, especially because of the size of the mass, he is in frequent discomfort and pain.
My husband and I live in Northern Virginia and my mother and father live in Alabama and until we can make arrangements for them to join us, we must support from afar which has only added to this hardship. My mother recently had to quit her job to become his full time caretaker. They also made the difficult choice to send my 16 year old brother to live with me and my husband temporarily while they began his aggressive treatment and so my brother can focus on school and not have to see my dad in this state. As you can imagine my younger brother and I are both adjusting to not being able to be with our father during this time, but we are lucky to have each other.
At this time, my family needs all the support they can get, including monetary support due to the financial strain they are experiencing at this time. My dad is the sole provider for his family and he will soon be unable to work due to the impacts of the cancer treatments, which has already began to hamper how he feels. Unfortunately, he can’t stop working at this time because he does not have full medical benefits. This is the main reason we are fundraising for him.
From my family: We know things are tough for everyone right now, but we ask that you keep my father and our family in your thoughts and prayers. We know that not everyone is able to contribute at this time, but even sharing his gofundme so others can see would be greatly appreciated! Not exactly sure of the amount needed for all the costs and expenses they are going through, but any amount that is not used will be donated back to a cancer foundation of my dads choice to help others in need. Love, Patricia Soukup
