7th Annual Save Second Base Pub Crawl

This year we are giving back to a local breast cancer fighter Georgann Roberts. In May 2019 Georgann was diagnosed with breast cancer. After numerous mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs and biopsies she was given the option of either choosing to have a lumpectomy and radiation or a mastectomy. After many conversations with breast cancer survivors, she had heard far too many stories of women having lumpectomies and radiation only to have a mastectomy a month or two later to combat further progressed cancer so she chose to have the bilateral mastectomies.

The first surgery was performed on September 3, 2019. Ten days later, after the drainage tubes were removed, the infections started. This is more common than most people realize. Long story short... after five surgeries in five months and numerous setbacks, her future still awaits with the anticipation of potentially two more surgeries. This will be the third year incurring exorbitant medical expenses as well as enduring the physical and mental challenge ahead.

Georgann initially was reluctant to share her story as she is very private about her health. But sharing her story, she knows is another way to educate and encourage women and men to stay vigilant with their annual exams for early detection and treatment, hopefully preventing long, painful treatments and recruit coverage and saving lives.
