Support Angela's Battle Against Tongue Cancer

Dear friends and family,

I am Ricardo, and Angela is my wife who I have loved and been married to for 21 years! It is with a heavy heart that I share the following with you:

About six months ago, Angela noticed that something was wrong, so she went directly to a specialist, the otorhinolaryngologist. The doctor examined her throat, and yes, the doctor noticed something strange in her mouth, so from then on, they began to perform various medical examinations! Biopsies, blood tests, and MRIs. The first biopsy showed high dysplasia (meaning not cancer yet), but a few days later Angela began to feel pain. The doctor suggested doing an MRI to see if there was anything in her throat.

The results of this showed a spot on the throat but Angela didn’t get a clear diagnosis! Therefore, an oncology doctor together with the otorhinolaryngologist specialist suggested a second more in depth biopsy to rule out possible cancer. Unfortunately, the result of this biopsy confirmed the doctor’s suspicion…yes, it was cancer on the left side of the tongue. Given this difficult news, the next step was a PET/CT scan of her tongue to show if the cancer had spread throughout her body. Fortunately, the results shows that it was located on the tongue. For this reason, treatment will be chemotherapy and radiation. She will need to see a speech therapist, for a time. She will not be able to feed herself through her mouth so they will put a feeding tube on her, along with all the side effects of this very difficult treatment.

Angela had this type of cancer 14 years before. Fighting it was very hard on her, but she survived and will get through this again.

We are grateful for the attention and care of the hospital medical team, but we need your help so that Angela can move forward. We know that no fight is won in isolation. Your prayers and financial support will make a big difference in Angela's recovery. Her medical expenses are very high. I am the only one working and the only source of financial support for Angela and our two daughters who are in school. One is a senior in high school and the other is a full-time college student. Any contribution you can provide will go directly towards her medical expenses and transportation to get her to and from the hospital twice a day for treatment.

Soy Ricardo, y Ángela es mi amada esposa a quien he amado y cuidado con todo mi corazón por 21 años!

Hace seis meses atrás Angela notó que algo no estaba bien con su salud, por lo que acudió directamente a su especialista, el otorrinolaringólogo. Este examinó su garganta y si, noto algo extraño por lo que a partir de allí empezaron a hacerle varios exámenes médicos! Biopsias,exámenes de sangre y resonancias magnéticas. La primera biopsia mostró como resultado una displasia alta (eso significa que no había cáncer) pero a los días Ángela empezó a sentir dolor por lo que fueron recetados medicamentos para ayudarla a calmar su dolor! El doctor sugiere hacer una resonancia magnética para ver que mostraba en su garganta. Los resultados de este mostraba una mancha en su garganta sin poder tampoco dar un diagnóstico claro! Por lo que un doctor de oncología junto con el especialista de otorrinolaringología sugieren una segunda biopsia más profunda para descartar un posible cáncer.

Angela pasó ya por este mismo procedimiento hace 14 años atrás con el mismo tipo de cáncer.

Desafortunadamente el resultado de esta biopsia confirmó la sospecha de los doctores…si, es cáncer en el lado izquierdo de la lengua! Dado a esta difícil noticia el siguiente paso sería hacer una exploración PET/CT es una técnica para mostrar si en el organismo a parte de su lengua no hay más cáncer! Afortunadamente el resultado muestra que solo está localizado en su lengua, por tal razón su tratamiento será quimioterapia y radiación, necesitará ver a un terapista del habla, por un tiempo no podrá alimentarse por su boca por lo que le pondrán un tubo alimenticio, junto a todos los efectos de este muy difícil tratamiento.

Estamos agradecidos por la atención y el cuidado del equipo médico del hospital, pero necesitamos de su ayuda para que Angela pueda salir adelante, sabemos que ninguna pelea se gana de forma aislada.

Sus oraciones y apoyo financiero marcarán una gran diferencia en la recuperación de Angela ya que los gastos médicos son muy elevados y su esposo es el único que trabaja en casa y la única fuente de apoyo financiero para Ángela y sus dos hijas que todavía están en la escuela una de ellas está en su último año de secundaria y la otra está en la universidad tiempo completo.
