My Battle with Crohn's Disease.
My journey began suddenly at the beginning of November when I was hospitalized for the first of three times.
During the first hospitalization they did a CT scan and diagnosed me with Colitis (inflammation of the colon). I was kept overnight and given a bunch of IV antibiotics and then got to go home on oral antibiotics because they thought it was just infection related. I felt good and back to myself for about 2 weeks and then all my symptoms came back.
I got readmitted to the hospital for the second time with the CT scan showing worsening Colitis. This time I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. Back on IV antibiotics, nothing to eat or drink and now having to have a Colonoscopy done. The Colonoscopy showed Colitis with a chronic disease process pointing towards Crohn's Disease. Now that we had a diagnosis my GI Doctor put me on steroids hoping this would help with the inflammation.
After being discharged from the hospital for the second time, being down 20 lbs and trying different medication regimens nothing was working. I was home for about 1 week when the symptoms came back with vengeance. Back to the hospital I went for my third admission. During this current hospitalization the CT scan was even worse than the one from a week ago (I know how could it just keep getting worse and not get any better). I was put back on IV antibiotics and IV steroids, nothing to eat or drink and trying a new medication infusion hoping this time around everything would work.
We are hoping and praying that the new medication I received through my IV will help me out tremendously and help me go into remission and get this flare up under control. Over the next few months I will have to go and receive the medication as an outpatient. This is a disease I am going to have to live with but it is something that can be managed by medication and diet.
Unfortunately, I have been out of work for almost a month now and do not know when I will be able to return.
