Central Stage Belongs to You! Keep It Open
Update August 2017: We have come far since we first started this campaing in June. Read the Updates section for more details.
Central Stage opened its doors ten years ago and has become a beacon of Arts and Culture for the Iranian community in the Bay Area. It has provided our community a unique space for artists, performers, writers, poets and dancers to express their creativity and for the audience to appreciate their art.
Central Stage is one of a kind. It is the only performing arts space dedicated to Iranian Arts and Culture in the Bay Area and beyond. We are proud to have had the opportunity to provide a venue to artists such as Hossein Alizadeh, Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, Mahsa Vahdat, Ziba Shirazi, Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Hadi Khorsandi, Arash Sobhani, Kourosh Taghavi, Hamed Nikpay, Fared Shafinury, several theater groups including Darvag Theatre.
Unfortunately, as of June 1, 2017 the landlord has increased the rent by 40%. Under these new and unforeseen circumstances Central Stage is no longer a sustainable venue and will have to close its doors.
In response to the new rental requirements, our community came together on June 16th to take action.
A committee was formed to steer us through this time of transition and evolution. The interim committee members are Behzad Golemohammadi, Hadi Mahdavi, Zahra Mahloudji, Peyman Moshref and Mansour Taeed.
Our first act is to bring on a new program manager responsible for increasing the utilization and revenue of the space by staging events more frequently, and by renting the space to other Bay Area organizations.
The funds raised from this campaign will be used for rent and upkeep of the space for 6 months, and give the new program manager an opportunity to get going and achieve sustainability.
Thank you very much for your generosity.
