Sydney's fight against Sarcoma

We are so grateful for those joining us as well as those that have been following along in Sydney's fight to BEAT CANCER!

Sydney Magness (Lippa) was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a rare cancer in August of 2021.  Over the past year she has gone through several rounds of strong chemotherapies and a period of radiation which we were hopeful would all work to shrink the tumors enough to have them surgically removed.  Due to the intensity of her treatments, she was unable to work most of last school year.  However, after radiation was over in late June, she was feeling better and had a beautiful wedding on July 2nd.  She went on an amazing honeymoon to Puta Cana and upon returning home was hospitalized for severe pain. At that time she learned the cancer had spread to her kidney, her lungs and to some areas in her arms and legs.

In addition to the oncology care she’s receiving at Hopkins, we knew we now needed something unconventional to help fight this cancer and discovered a book called Starve Your Cancer, by Janet McLellan.  The author, a physio scientist, cured her own stage 4 cancer using a metabolic approach which blocked the many pathways cancer can use to grow and spread.  We discovered that the endocrinologist who wrote the forward in her book happens to practice in Annapolis, Maryland less than an hour away.  He agreed to see Sydney and immediately put her on an intensive protocol of off label medicine and supplements to kill her cancer cells and stop them from being able to spread.  She had her first appointment with him at the end of September and by mid-October her scan showed her tumors had already begun to shrink!  The costs of these metabolic treatments are expensive and neither the endocrinologist visits nor costs of the medications are covered by her insurance.  She was again recently hospitalized due to a staph infection that turned into sepsis-praise God for effective antibiotics.  Although Sydney is back to work so far this school year, she is missing many days of work due to appointments, treatments and hospitalizations.

To know Sydney is to love her. Her unwaivered faith throughout this journey has shown a glimpse of God's goodness to everyone she has come in contact with. Together with continued prayers and your generous support we will fight to beat this!!!
