Hello everybody,
A few weeks ago, my mom, Virginia Welford, was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer called multiple myeloma. This disease creates massive amounts of white blood cells, leading to a variety of complications- in Virginia's case, the cancer resulted in tiny bone fractures, making movement very painful. She needs to wear a back brace full-time.
Recently, Virginia went back to the ER for an unrelated appendix issue, resulting in major surgery and 6 days in hospital. Unfortunately, she got an infection after surgery and had to go back to the hospital for more treatment.
At this point, the road forward is long and treacherous, with chemo leading to an eventual bone marrow transplant. But due to complications with her appendix and infection, she cannot begin the myeloma treatment yet and has had to spend more time in emergency rooms and hospitals. So far she has spent 15 nights in the hospital and been transported four times by ambulance and once by helicopter. She was just discharged again from Albany Medical Center where they were working to control the infection and try to prevent another one.
The money we're collecting will go a long way to not only help cover all those medical costs, but also the logistical costs that go along with it: time lost at work, hotel fees and airplane tickets for family to come help etc.
Virginia is beacon of light in so many peoples' lives; she's a wonderful mother, sister, and friend. Any help to get her back to 100% would be immeasurably appreciated.
Thank you! Olivia Welford
