Hi there! My name is Liv and I am currently fundraising for my graduate short film titled "Harvest".

The film follows a mermaid who spends one night as a girl on land. While initially a fish out of water, she finds solace in three girls who capture her attention. She follows them, and as they gradually come into contact, she is invited into their world.

However, the mermaid’s time on land comes at a cost: the longer she stays, the more she becomes a real human, and satiating her hunger for human prey may be her only way back to the sea. Ultimately, she struggles with a conflict between her desires and her nature.

"Harvest" is really a story about girlhood. It is about what it means to feel out of place in a world others seem to understand, when really much of our common ground in coming of age lies in pretending that we have any idea about what is really going on.

Mermaids have been depicted as loving, woeful, vengeful, manipulative, or been the face of a cautionary tale about what it means to be greedy, lustful, honest, or cruel. But mermaids are still creatures that are half-fish, half-woman. What it means for a mermaid to be a girl is still an area less explored, unless they are pining for men on land, wishing to never return to the sea (even if they ultimately do).

This is a mermaid who simply navigates a night on land, discovering fleeting moments of what it must mean to be a girl. To me, this encapsulates a journey many of us have experienced in looking for ourselves and what speaks to us. It is a journey we never finish.

The funds we raise will be used to make this film a reality. Primarily, we need to the money to properly provide for our cast and crew and bring the production to life in Brighton. Similarly, we have location costs to attend to, transport fees, and while many of our crew are volunteering, some principal members will need to be paid, such as our makeup artist, who is crucial in bringing the character of the mermaid to life.

Lastly, funds that do not go into production will be used for the post-production of the film - the sound mix, music composition, and color grading of the film will all be needed to finalise it.
