Hi everyone,
For the last 5 years, my mom, Angela, has been battling Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Anyone who has met my mom knows that she is extremely welcoming, caring, kind, funny, strong, and so optimistic. For so much of her life, she has dedicated her time and effort to support not only her loved ones, but the Los Angeles community, local politics, and nonprofit organizations. As her only child and her only family in LA, we have always been each other’s main support system.
She was able to work full-time up until last year. This year, she has had numerous surgeries and has been in and out of several physical therapy rehabilitation centers since October 2025. She’s been staying in a rehab facility for the last month as she is currently immobile and in need of 24 hour care. She will continue to be in this assisted care facility for the time being.
A couple weeks ago, we found out that my mom’s disability payments were unexpectedly discontinued. Claims were made that she was paid too much and we’re now being asked to repay the last 9 months of benefits.
I’m currently in Los Angeles from New York taking unpaid time off to help take care of her. With unexpected medical bills, pet expenses, transportation costs, and living expenses, the financial burden has become unmanageable.
This has been a really difficult emotional and logistical moment for us, and it is with immense humility and gratitude that we ask for help. With this financial assistance, we’ll continue to help support my mom who has been such a fighter for so many years. Anything you can do to help is so greatly appreciated.
Cassidy
