As some of you might know, my husband Alex was born with very poor vision. When he was diagnosed at 3 years old with Myopia (at his age now he needs a prescription that is -20 to correct his vision) he was always told by doctors that if he was ever to have his vision corrected permanently, he would need to be at least 30 years old.
The surgery is called ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery, and it is a refractive lens procedure that corrects vision by surgically implanting a thin, flexible lens into the eye, behind the iris and in front of the natural lens which would almost correct his vision. However, the strongest IC Lens that is available at this time can correct a script up to a maximum of -16, which means that he will also need lasik to fully correct his vision. So he really needs 2x surgery's to fully correct his eyes.
His 30th birthday is coming around soon, however, the procedure is so expensive, it was very much out of our budget and would likely not be on the cards for us for a long time. He really felt it was just a dream that we couldn’t realistically achieve.
That was until he had an amazing offer from an anonymous donor who offered to contribute a significant amount towards the surgery!
So since his 30th birthday is coming up next month, I thought it could be a great idea for a collective birthday gift to see if we could crowdfund the costs so he can get his eyes fixed for his 30th birthday :) Anything you can contribute would be super amazing, I think it would be a really life-changing gift for him to receive!
