Mango's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Hello all! On Monday night, my coworkers' sweet dog Mango was viciously attacked by a pack of collarless dogs at Amazon dog park. As someone who lives a few streets over in the neighborhood, Steven frequently visits Amazon park with Mango. On Monday at about 8:30 p.m., Steven and Mango had just opened the gate into the field when a pack of dogs (none of which had on collars) quickly and brutally attacked Mango. They pinned her down on her back, bit her all over her body, and one latched on to her stomach/groin area. The owners/handlers of the pack of dogs were sitting on the picnic table in the middle of the park and were very slow to react and came up shouting, "this is why we come here late at night!" Steven had to use all of his strength to fend off the 4-5 dogs and scoop Mango up out of harm's way. He began to run home with Mango, who was profusely bleeding, only to hear the owner shouting at one of the dogs still in hot pursuit of Steven and Mango. Finally, it turned around and went back across the busy street to Amazon park.
Steven did what any owner would do and rushed Mango to the Springfield Emergency Vet, where she underwent emergency surgery. Anyone who's been in a similar situation to have to visit the emergency vet understands that Steven now faces an astronomical bill upwards of $5,100 (before follow-up appointments).
Mango is a sweet heeler/shepherd mix who was lovingly adopted from Greenhill 6 years ago. Of course there is much more to say about the situation, dogs and owners at the park, etc. - Steven and his daughter are very shaken up by the ordeal but are just happy that Mango is okay and on her way to recovery (see final photo). We're asking anyone who is in a position to help to contribute to Mango's recovery/vet bill fund. Contributions of any amount - no matter the size - are highly appreciated. Thank you for reading.
