Hello! My name is Megan McGuire, and I am a licensed veterinary technician for the Omaha, NE area. I am here to tell Zeus's story!
Zeus is a 3-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever who is the definition of man's best friend. Zeus is a beloved family member to a beautiful family who is struggling with what they can do to help him.
Zeus and his family came into the clinic I work for intending to put him down because his quilty of life was gone. Zeus suffers from bilateral cranial cruciate ligament tears. In a human, that is the equivalent of a complete tear of the ACL in both knees. Right now, Zeus is having a tough time walking, and he has been in a lot of pain. The surgery required to fix both knees is $8000, and that doesn't include the cost of physical therapy. His owners, knowing that they couldn't afford the surgeries at this time, were going to give him this last bit of kindness they could to their beloved family member.
This is where I came in. I saw this family truly heartbroken and defeated that they couldn't do more to help him. I knew that I had to find a way to help save Zeus! I spoke with the doctor, and he went in and explained to them what I wanted to do. They had their doubts originally and thought it was too good to be true. I went in and introduced myself and explained that I WILL find a way to get him started with these surgeries. I took ownership of Zeus to get him the help he needs. The best part is, he gets to stay with his family.
After getting to know the family a little better, it made everything that was about to take place, so worth it! The male owner of Zeus is a detective who works on Child Sexual Abuse cases in the Omaha area. It takes a true hero to be able to do that line of work. The little girl in the photo above is Zeus's person. This little girl loves Zeus with her whole heart, and the bond they share is one we all hope to share with our pets. Now it's our turn to be the heroes for Zeus!
The funds I am raising for Zeus will go to his surgeries and rehab. Zeus will be going to see a specialist as soon as we can to get the ball rolling. We have to start one knee at a time and completely rehabilitate it before we can go onto the next one. It will be a long but fulfilling process. We are hoping to raise funds within a month and a half. Our goal is to raise $6000 of the $8000 needed for the surgeries and rehab. The end goal is to get Zeus walking again and make him better than he was before. With two brand new knees, he could run and play with his little girl again!
