My name is Joharys Mariel, I am a nineteen-year-old dreamer, with high goals in life. I am majoring in Natural Sciences at the University of the Sacred Heart in Santurce, and I am studying to achieve my life-long dream of becoming a doctor because medicine is my vocation and my calling in life. I seek the light (knowledge), so that I may become a more productive contributor to my country and I am very proud to have been selected to represent Puerto Rico at Semester at Sea Program for the Fall 2014 semester.

I believe this is an excellent experience for my career, but more importantly- I feel like I need this experience to leave my footprint in Puerto Rico. I am putting my heart's desire out into the Universe to accomplish this because even though I am a good person, I wish to become a better one. One that is able to lead a better life and help others.

Semester at Sea (SAS) is a study abroad program founded in 1963, now managed by the Institute for Shipboard Education in Charlottesville, Virginia; where students must be in good academic and judicial standing to be selected.

The SAS program looks for undergraduate students from more than 1,500 colleges and universities to circumnavigate the globe for a semester, and merge sensory experiences with academic insight, while being exposed to "life changing experiences".

During this voyage, I have a plan to provide seminars to children on "Easy ways to save lives", which consist of teaching simple tools for medical emergencies. I want to spread my love, because nothing says "˜I love you and I care' more than teaching children in Ghana the Heimlich maneuver or show Brazilian kids how to properly treat bleeding. These things might seem simplistic, but I can assure you, teaching children how to do a homemade stretcher can be life changing.

The Fall Semester at Sea Begins On: August 23, 2014 / Ends: December 08, 2014. Ports of call are:

England, Russia, Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Morroco, Senegal, Ghana, Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, and Florida.

This experience is a costly investment and my family does not have the funds to afford this, so I am seeking sponsors and scholarships to help cover for my food, room, tuition and general expenses for the Fall semester. If you wish to collaborate economically to this study/growth experience, please make your donation. Every penny can make a difference!

I truly believe that I can make a difference and that this trip will be inspiring for me and the children that I touch through the seminars that I plan to provide on "Easy things that save lives". Will you believe in me? I deeply wish it; so may it be.

Thanks in advance for your support and attentions!
