Luna’s story….

I found Luna on Craigslist in November 2017. She was said to have been abandoned and left inside an empty apartment found by the family who lived next door. She was close to 6 months old and I drove to Berkeley to get her. The family was a young woman with adorable 1-year-old twin boys. They had a hard time saying goodbye I could see that she loved them so I kept the name they gave her.

Luna is my registered support animal who goes everywhere with me including my two job sites. We are incredibly attached to one another. She loves all animals no matter the size. She is eager to meet and greet them. She was very loving to the kittens we fostered. Almost motherly and she was just a baby herself. She is very protective of me and my daughter, very untrusting of male figures and people in uniform. Never bites but does bark.

Luna has a kitty brother who’s name is Kush and many fur friends as well. She and him play wrestle quite often and its quite funny to watch. I work at a drug and alcohol treatment program and we have a black lab named Lani. They used to play a lot before Luna got sick. Lani checks on her every day. We also have a fish, and the first thing she does when we get to work is run up to the fish tank to say good morning.

Luna was initially getting treatment at a different clinic, but I was unhappy with the services provided or lack thereof. I called around and went to the VCA in San Mateo, in June of this year. After her exam, they urged me to see a dermatologist right away and said we have a long hard road ahead of us. They weren’t kidding. The search alone was hard. A veterinary dermatologist is incredibly rare and few exist in the area. Most had extensive waitlists and others weren’t taking new patients. I felt discouraged but continued the search until I found our new doctor. It’s a bit of a drive for us every month but we make it a road trip.

Getting Luna medical care for almost a year & now a specialist for 4 months, I’ve created some serious debt. I’m a single mom working 2 jobs 7 days a week and if you live in the Bay Area you know struggle.

The quotes I received for Luna’s surgery ranged from 10,000 to 14,000. I reached out to UC Davis which has an incredible veterinary program. They quoted me $6,500-$7,300. We have scheduled a consultation for 11/16 and surgery for 11/17.

Most fundraisers cap at $2,000. I have started a few campaigns to help reach our goal. I will do anything possible to end her suffering please help by sharing Luna’s story! We thank you for your contributions whether it is monetary, with a share, or both! We thank you.

Luna’s Health Condition

Luna has been diagnosed with Atopic dermatitis. It wasn’t until recently, after getting connected to an actual specialist that we identified the cause of her consistent ear infections. This, although hard to say, indicates that her condition was not properly identified or managed and has resulted in severe infection and tissue overgrowth. We made every attempt to save her ears but the damage is irreversible. Luna needs an ablation of both of her canals and yes, this will cause her to be deaf. Luna is a healthy dog aside from her current condition and I have no doubt she will have a fulfilled life despite the loss of hearing.

Luna misses all her friends very much and looks forward to playing with them again soon.

Luna not feeling too well.
