Abraham and Katie of T.H.E. FARM (To Heal Earth Farm)
We are raising money to help fund the start of our small-scale no-till organically grown farm in Kittery, Maine. We are new farmers with a passion to share our abundance and educate the community through the food we eat. Our vision is to heal the earth...one bite at a time! We are strong believers that eating less from a box and more from the earth is the most powerful medicine. Our platform will not only supply you with food to eat but also how to take these ingredients and create simple and delicious whole food plant-based meals. As well as tips on how easy it is to grow your own food in your garden.
WHERE WE WILL BE GROWING:
In January 2021, we had been given an extraordinary opportunity to lease land with the Kittery Land Trust. A month prior, the KLT permanently protected Nooney Farm, a 30-acre property with farmland, wetlands and woodlands just tucked away in the center of the community, steps away from the Kittery town’s middle school. Instead of a 7-home division, the fertile fields and woodlands will become a hub for local agriculture, education, and outdoor recreation. They invited three sets of farmers, including us, to lease out 6 acres of arable land. We are incredibly humbled and excited to be a part of something unique and special at Nooney Farm. A place that brings people together and closer to their food, both that fuels and heals the soul.
OUR PRACTICES:
One of our focuses is on soil health and ecological repair. This means we utilize organic, no pesticides, no GMOs, no-till practices, among other regenerative agricultural methods. Our goal is to build rich fertile soil that is resilient that will support healthy plants and nutrient-dense food.
WHAT WE WILL BE GROWING:
Lettuce heads, salad mixes, baby/mature greens, microgreens, radishes, turnips, beets, carrots, turmeric, ginger, onions, tomatoes, peppers, culinary herbs, bouquet market flowers and other surprises!
OUR MARKET:
We intend to sell to both retail and wholesale customers. We will be attending a local farmers market once a week as well as a pop-up stand at the Kittery Food Truck Pod. Any excess food will be given to the local food banks. After our first year, we plan to expand our market to include a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) for an individual and family to buy a season's harvest with the ability for you to choose what we harvest and pack for you each week.
