Esmeralda and family

Esmeralda* and her family are struggling to build a life in the United States after fleeing for their lives from their native Guatemala. (*Her real name is not being used here to preserve her privacy.) Esmeralda lives with her husband and their four daughters who range in age from 9 months old to 16 years old. Her 14-year-old is severely diabetic and in treatment at Mass General Hospital.
She and her family had to escape from Guatemala about one year ago after they experienced targeted violence and death threats due to Esmeralda's political activity. Esmeralda always dreamed of building a better Guatemala for her people. Her uncle founded a political party and ran for president in the 1990's, but he was assassinated. He was her inspiration. Esmeralda is an attorney by trade and ran for both mayor and congress in Guatemala. She dreamed of one day running for president with the goal of improving the lives of the most vulnerable but she was attacked because of her beliefs and values. She and her husband also owned a restaurant where she was the main chef. She and her family had to leave everything behind including their parents, siblings, close friends, and of course their dreams in order to escape with their lives.
Your help supporting Esmeralda and her four children would be very much appreciated. Even a small gift such as a $10 would go a long way to helping them pay rent and meet their basic needs.
They are also desperately searching for an affordable place to live if anyone has any leads on that. They currently live in Revere.
Thank you!
