Birdie was diagnosed with a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear, also known as an ACL tear as a result of arthritis and over use. She’s spent the past 8 weeks in a wagon, with no physical activity, but the tear is still causing her pain and the inability to walk and play.
For those of you who know Birdie’s story, she’s come a long way. Katie rescued her 4 years ago from Chicago Animal Care and Control. Her cage read “dangerous” because she was distraught after being dumped by her family. With time, patience, and lots of training, Birdie has become the most trusting and affiliative dog. In her apartment building, she’s always wagging her tail and running up to strangers to say hello. She’s often complimented by other dog owners for being so docile with their pets. Katie often hears “Birdie is the only dog my cranky dog likes!”
But without a costly ACL surgery, Bird can’t Bird. She’s immobilized and sedated on pain meds. Since Bird has overcome so much in her past, she is especially deserving of the best quality of life—accordingly, Katie will be taking her for surgery on August 1st which will cost $5,600.
We are graciously asking anyone who feels compelled and who has the means to share this page or to donate to help ease the stress for Katie. Birdie is resilient and with this surgery, she’ll be able to live out her golden years in the most comfortable way possible.
