A few months ago, my girlfriend, Vanessa, just 36 years old, was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer — invasive ductal carcinoma. She’s a loving single mom to her beautiful 8-year-old daughter, a devoted daughter to her parents who don’t speak English as their first language. (she manages all their bills, appointments, and interprets for them). Vanessa is the most selfless, outgoing, big-hearted and loving person I’ve ever met.
If you are lucky enough to know Vanessa personally, you can agree she’s the first to show up when someone needs help — even if it means putting her own needs last. She’s the kind of person who will offer you her last dollar, and somehow still find a way to make you laugh on your worst day. Now, she’s facing the biggest fight of her life and it’s our turn to show up for her.
Her doctors have recommended a DIEP flap surgery — a complex and lengthy procedure that will be part of her breast cancer treatment and reconstruction journey. She just started a new job only two months ago, which means she doesn’t qualify for paid time off or assistance. Every day she worries about not just her health, but also how she will keep a roof over her daughter’s head, cover bills, and manage the time she’ll need to recover from surgery and treatment.
We’re asking for help to give her the space to heal without the crushing weight of financial stress. Whether it’s $5, $50, or simply sharing this page, every single act of kindness will help more than you know. Your generosity will go directly toward her medical expenses, time off work, and keeping life stable for her daughter during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for taking the time to read Vanessa’s story. Thank you for your prayers, donations, and for sharing this page to spread the word. Let’s help her fight this battle with the same love and strength she’s always shown to everyone else.
