IGNITE Women’s Political Leadership Trip
Donation protected
Since I was little I have always been fascinated by human nature. In recent years that fascination has evolved into a love for politics and sociology. Anybody who knows me can tell you that there is nothing I would rather do than talk about politics and sociology. Up until this point, I've only dreamed of getting an opportunity like the one IGNITE offers me. The IGNITE trip will allow us to meet with 10+ women Senators and Representatives, participate in a special briefing at the US State department, network with women staffers on Capitol Hill, get trained on fundraising, public speaking, and issues advocacy,
tour the White House and other national monuments, and more!
Not only would it allow me to experience politics up close and meet some of the "frontline warriors", but it would also give me vital skills that I could apply later in life. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others" -Marianne Williamson. In a world where women are too often shamed, shunned, underappreciated, underpaid, objectified, and up against major political powers (most notably in the Republicans' "war on women"), the women I would meet on this trip have found the courage to stand up and the strength of vision to take it upon themselves to venture into what still for the most part remains a male dominated arena. Through this trip, I hope I can gain the vital strength necessary to liberate me from my fear and allow me to have the confidence to voice my opinions and ideas more often. By gaining these skills, I aspire to become a more active member of my city and the political issues that exist therein. I want to end by saying that I truly believe that this opportunity has the potential to alter the course of my life and I've never wanted something more than this. Thank you for your time.
