Elaine Van Hoey Kish gave birth to our daughter Abigail Mary on February 22 2016. Abigail was born with a diaphragmatic hernia on the right side of her chest which pushed her liver and intestines into her chest not letting her right lung develop and put pressure on her heart. They put her on a machine called ECMO that is a heart and lung bypass machine to let her lungs and heart rest and recover. Abigail successfully came off of ECMO three weeks later but unfortunately the ECMO machine has side effects that caused her to have seizures. The seizures were caused by brain damage from a lack of blood and oxygen to the brain. Abigail had no sight and could not move from this. Abigail passed on April 1 2016 from a long fight. Abigail was the bravest and strongest person my wife and I have ever known. Abigail touched the lives of many people at the hospital and defied the odds throughout her stay. Abigail is in a better place now and I can see her playing with her sister Elizabeth Clare. Elaine and I would like to thank everyone for everything they did for us throughout Abigail's stay at the hospital. This fund will cover Abigail's hospital stay and funeral costs. We will keep this fund open and continue to donate money to U of M Mott Childrens hospital. Also we will take some of the money raised to make gift baskets for the family's staying in the NICU.
