Hi, my name is Melissa. I have 2 daughters, Leia and Lilly. The better part of the last 2 years have been a series of unfortunate events leaving us on the verge of being evicted. I am a single mother of these 2 beautiful souls. They have endured tragedy with trauma to follow and remain kind, positive and strong. They lost their father to pancreatic cancer almost 2 years ago. We have managed to hang on til now. Since then my friend, whom we were living with, had a financial downfall and she had to move out of the apartment. Her moving resulted in me taking full financial responsibility for our home. Shortly thereafter my car started on fire while I was driving and was completely burned along with personal items inside . The cost of deductibles and replacing my vehicle and belongings caused us to go under. Then before we were able to recover, my youngest daughter was hospitalized for mental health 3 times in a matter of months and is still undergoing intensive therapy and care. This resulted in a loss of employment for me. I was unemployed for a few months until I only recently gained employment. We were receiving ssi but lost half of that assistance in July when my oldest daughter turned 18. Unfortunately the damage has gone beyond the point of me being able to recover in time and at this time we were not able to pay our rent, and are now facing an eviction. We do not have family or friends that are able to help. My oldest daughter has just gone to college and my youngest daughter is finally healing with the help of our city's resources and has started going back to school with the amazing help of the school district. If we are forced to move we will not be within our community and could lose these helpful resources and that could be detrimental to her. I have reached the point where I have to reach out for this help in order for us to survive this situation.
