Hi everyone, my name is Greg, or Boilon as some might know me as. On Tuesday July 02 at around 5pm PST I was outside with Loki and my nephews playing around and having a good time. I honestly cannot say what went wrong but by the time we went inside Loki began having troubles breathing and was licking and snapping the air and I knew something was wrong. I had to immediately take Loki to the nearby emergency vet and that began our first trip in what would be, so far anyways a few days ordeal.
After our first visit to the emergency vet they thought that Loki was just suffering from nausea due to something he must have ate outside and were sent home with a shot and some medication for that. However, after eating dinner that night Loki began to exhibit the same symptoms but worse after trying to digest his meal. We went back to the emergency vet for round 2 that same evening and did an oral examination of his esophagus and found that there was what appeared to be a sharp thorn stuck inside and was taken out, likely from my mom's rose bush garden. We thought that was it so again were sent home after this.
However, after feeding Loki in the morning (now Wed July 03) he once again began exhibiting choking and symptoms suggesting he had troubles breathing, so back we went to the vet again for a third visit. This time we ended up getting an X-Ray of his stomach to look further and we have determined that there is indeed something inside of Loki that needs to come out. Unfortunately, as of writing we don't know what that is, but that its causing a blockage by sitting in his stomach and is having troubles passing through him. Whatever this foreign object is needs to come out of Loki.
I have since had to transport Loki to another emergency veterinary for them to do an ultrasound on Loki to get to the bottom of what's going on. It may also be necessary upon this that he will need a scope procedure in attempts to identify more specifically what this object is that's stuck inside his stomach, and the worst case scenario is that Loki may have to go under the knife for surgery to have it removed.
All of the above trips to the Emergency has really taken it's toll on me, both because I am absolutely shattered for him to see my poor dog this way and not well, but the stacking costs that this is going to become as the day goes on. It's not that I didn't think there was a cost to having a dog, but I never thought that this would happen to my dog, and it breaks my heart to even have possibly thought about doing these procedures. But, Loki means so much to me that I couldn't say no, and so I am doing whatever is necessary to make him well again so that he can smile and bark and do all the things that dogs should do, and keeping my lonesome self company.
So why am I writing this to all of you. Well, like I mentioned before, I have begun to be absolutely floored by the increasing cost starting from the initial visit all the way to where we are now so far (and still ongoing) with Loki and I am reaching out to the online community and wider Marvel Strike Force community who know me well all these years in hopes that there are people out there who would be willing and able to extend a hand. I understand times are tough for many, and I don't want anyone to do anything they're not comfortable with or cannot manage themselves.
100% of the funds will be used towards Loki's vet bills, and any upcoming surgery that he may incur along the way. I have set my fundraising goal LOWER than what the total will be because I don't think it is fair to be asking for the entire cost for something that is my fault for not having pet insurance, something I know now I should have had from the beginning and seeing this is definitely going to make me think twice once this is all over.
In an effort for full transparency I want to outline the vet bills (in CAD) that have been incurred so far and upcoming that may be on the way:
- First Emergency Vet Visit Evening July 02 (Nausea diagnosis) - $339
- 2nd Emergency Vet Visit that same evening later on (Oral Examination) - $270 (slightly lower due to being a recheck fee)
- 3rd Emergency Vet Visit July 03 afternoon + X-Ray - $440
- Transport to NEW Emergency Vet (Loki being held overnight and has Ultrasound planned and more...) - $2500-$3500 > I have paid a deposit of $1500 at this stage
- If after the ultrasound the problem is identified, more procedures may be necessary including a Scope procedure in to his stomach, and/or surgery for extraction > These fees range from $3000-6000 and I am unsure yet....
I want to thank everyone who has read this far and anyone who is considering to help me with this as I have been struggling emotionally really hard and it made me realize how much I absolutely adore my corgi Loki and just want the best for him and for him to be better. At the bottom I have enclosed a photo of Loki when he is being the bestest boy and I want him to be like this again.
